Host a Cookie Exchange and Save Yourself Some Work

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

ChristmasCookiePlate

I’m sad that this is the last day of the Mistletoe Make & Bake Blog Hop, but I’m excited that it is my turn to share a fun holiday project with you! But first, let’s talk about cookie exchanges since you have dozens of new cookie recipes to try!

Hosting a Cookie Exchange Party is the perfect way to get together with friends over the holidays with the added bonus of getting a variety of cookies to have for other holiday occasions without all the work!

I’ve been to cookie exchanges where guests brought copies of their recipes along with their cookies. If you plan your date far enough in advance you can have your guests send their recipes to you in advance so you can compile a book of cookie recipes for each guest as a party favor! Having prizes is another fun idea – you could give prizes for the best-looking cookies or the most creative packaging and give mini cookie cutters, jars of sprinkles or flavorings as the prizes.

Don’t forget the Christmas music!

There are hundreds of resources on the web to help you plan – everything from The Rules of the Cookie Exchange to Cookie Exchange Invitations. There are a gazillion recipe sites, too, but you won’t be needing those because you’ve got plenty of new cookie recipes from this blog hop to keep you busy for a while! There’s still time to plan a fun Cookie Exchange Party with your friends so get out your calendar and pick a date!

The cookie recipe I’m sharing with you today was shared with me a couple of years ago by my good friend, Ruthanne. These rank right up at near the top of my favorite cookies list … I think I made at least a half dozen batches that first Christmas!

To download and print the pdf version of the recipe card, click here.

I decided since we were baking all these cookies that we needed a cute decoration to dress up our cookie jars. My Cookie Jar Wrap is quick to make – add them to cute jars filled with homemade cookies for those last minute gifts on your list! It could also be adapted to use as a Candle Wrap, and by all means, make it with fabric instead of wool if you prefer!

Our other featured designer today is Vickie over at Spun Sugar Quilts. I can’t wait to see what she’s cooked up for you! And don’t forget to grab the recipes from everyone else, too!

I have enjoyed reading your comments so much – seems we’ve brought back lots of memories for you with our stories and cookie recipes, and I love the stories you’ve shared in your comments. As one of the featured blogs today, I get to have a little giveaway so you’ll want to be sure to leave a comment on this post. I’ll post the winner on Sunday. Oh, I should probably tell you what you’ll win…how about this cute little kit!

Make sure you’ve left a comment on each blog each day so you’ll be entered to win the grand prizes…yes, I said prizes! Seems we have enough great stuff to put together TWO grand prizes…I wish I could win! Sherri over at This & That will announce the grand prize winners on her blog Sunday so be sure to check back…it might be YOU!

So sorry I’m a day late posting the giveaway winner…it took me all day Sunday to recuperate from our Paducah trip…I think I took three naps!!! Today I am finally feeling human again and am trying to get caught up on everything that was neglected while I was gone. I’ve got a couple of Paducah-related blog posts in the pipeline so be sure to check back to hear about all the fun we had!

Thanks to everyone who sent me comments about what’s on your wish lists – I’ll be taking the list with me to Quilt Market next month for sure!

The winner of the Shangri-La fabric pack is Comment#9:

  • Terry Says:
    April 18th, 2010 at 11:23 AM

Thanks for the chance at the great fabric! So many things on my wish list…pretty much anything Moda would be great, but if I had to get specific I’d say Kansas Troubles fabrics. And Sandy Gervais…I love her Frolic! And I’d love to find a great tone on tone to do my stitcheries on.

Send me an email (info @ sweethomequiltco dot com), Terry, with your address and I’ll send the fabric right out to you. Congratulations!

  • Giveaway Time!

    Sunday, April 18th, 2010

It has been a while since we’ve had a giveaway so I thought since today, April 18, is Make-A-Quilt Day we’d do some celebrating. You know you need more fabric to make a quilt, right?!?!Earlier this week while searching my office for something I’d put in a “safe place” (%#@#$!) I found a forgotten bundle of one of my favorite fabric lines from Moda EVER – Shangri-La…

    IMG_0429

…seven half-yards of Shangri-La yumminess…and I’m going to share with one of you!

I’m getting ready to go to Quilt Market in May, and I usually go with a buying plan so I don’t go overboard (yea right!). So here’s the question – What is on your wish list? What would you like me to look for while I’m at Market? Notions? Books? Patterns? Gifties? Fabric? Flannel? Brights? Moda? Blenders? Is there a new designer you’re anxious to try? Inquiring minds want to know!

Leave your comment on this post telling me your wish list, and I’ll announce a randomly drawn winner for the Shangri-La fabric bundle on April 25. International winners will be asked to pay shipping.

    Helllooooo…Anybody Out There???

    hello

Anyone still with me? I know postings have been a bit scarce lately (and I’ve taken a lot of grief about it, too!). I have been working, working, working. Along with all the usual year-end stuff and some fun, busy days at the shop, I’ve been planning lots of fun things for the shop (more on that later!), getting ready for Fat Quarter Frenzy, and planning for Shop Hop. And in between, there has been a little (very little!) cooking, cleaning, laundry, yada, yada, yada!

Since the weather here is rainy and yucky today, I thought I’d try to catch up on a few things. I’ve got a long list already that includes a little cleaning & laundry, a few small quilting projects that shouldn’t take long to finish, and blogging with you. I’ve got loads to share, just haven’t had time to post; hopefully, I can remedy that today.

I’ve been searching for a few quick Valentine projects, and I came across a few that I thought you might like, too. Still plenty of time to work on these…

    pennypockets

These cute pennie pockets from Sew What’s New would make great favors for the kids’ teachers or friends, or maybe for a little treat for your co-workers.

    RedHearts-1

Here is a beautiful small heart wallhanging provided by Janome that would work up quickly. There is also a matching pillow project that would be quick to make, too. Be sure to read about The Heart Truth project, heart disease in women is a real threat!

Check out this free tutorial for a Stack-n-Whack heart block from Bethany Reynolds – make 3 or 4 blocks and set them into a cute table runner or topper for Valentine’s Day.

Here’s a little surprise Valentine’s giveaway for you. Leave a comment and I’ll send this great little pattern to the lucky winner – make it for yourself or as a giftie for a quilting friend (or both!)  I’ll post the winner on Friday, Jan. 29th. Be sure to leave your email address with your comment so I can contact you if you win!

    pennypouchcovercopy

I’m off to tick a few things off today’s list. First on the list is to put on a loda of laundry, eat a little breakfast and read the Sunday paper…then the fun can begin!

Friday Favorite Winner (and why I’m so late!)

    Friday, December 11th, 2009

Whee! It has been a wild, wild afternoon here at Sweet Home! Apparently, a local business was robbed and the perpetrator (I just love using “cop speak”!) decided he’d hide out in the neighborhood behind us. We’ve had the doors at the shop locked all afternoon, and in between customers I’ve been mostly watching out the windows at the police activity in the neighborhood with an ear tuned to the sound of several helicopters hovering overhead. We even got to see the city’s newest officer, a bloodhound, in action! Unfortunately, the robber was not caught, which meant Mike wouldn’t allow me to stay at the shop by myself after we closed so I couldn’t get finished with this post. My son dropped off my granddaughter and grandson after work so I’ve been playing Go Fish (10,000 times!!!), sword fighting, and watching Prancer with them all evening. They have just gone home, so finally, a minute of peace and quiet to get this done!!!  It is still Friday, so technically, I’m not late yet!

The last Friday Favorite giveaway of the year was apparently not as popular as the other Friday Favorites – only 26 comments this time! I guess there aren’t many applique enthusiasts among my blog readers! That is good news for this week’s winner, though. The random generator thingy at random.org selected comment number 11 – Leiann (no blog)! Congratulations, Leiann, you’ll have some great designs in this book with which to practice your new applique skills.

I will begin First Friday Favorite giveaways in January so stay tuned. I hope you’ll stick around and keep up with what’s happening at Sweet Home Quilt Co. even without the weekly giveaways! I’m enjoying getting to know you all!
