Or at least she was yesterday! I don’t generally go to such great lengths to make a fool of myself, but every once in a while I can get there! We had a BLAST! yesterday at the shop with our Halloween foolery. I, of course, was dressed as Bad Melisa, Evil Temptress and Kris was our resident clown. She even got a “honk” from passing cars while standing on the front porch waving at traffic. Seems she had long harbored the dream of being one of those characters who stand on the street corner to advertise for a business – take that off your Bucket List, Kris!

Although I had thought I might make this my “official” uniform (since Karin and others continually accuse me of being “Bad Melisa, Evil Temptress” to get them into the shop!), I learned that this get-up is not a good look for a menopausal woman because a) it is HOT to wear all that wicked lace and the hat and feathers and the long wig and the makeup, and b) the heavy makeup significantly emphasizes all those wrinkles around my eyes! Think I’ll just stick with my normal mode of dress from here on out!

I was actually the “Good Witch” yesterday, handing out chocolate treats and coupon surprises to shoppers. Some got free fabric and others got discounts, and the fun was FREE! Everyone got a chance to “Guess and Win.” The object was to guess the number of candy corns in the jar to win a $50 gift certificate. We eventually had to tape the lid on the jar because everyone wanted to sample the candy corns, which would have changed my count! The only clue was that there was “more than 1 and less than 500″ in the jar. The count was actually 357 and Sheila Goff was our winner with her guess of 351. When I called to tell her she was excited and exclaimed that she’d never won anything! Take that off your Bucket List, Shelia, cause you can’t say that anymore! I was able to make quite a few “Bucket List” wishes come true yesterday!

I did decorate the shop a little, mainly in the entry foyer, and everyone enjoyed homemade treats, too.

Here’s my pumpkin topiary, made with the white carvable pumpkins from the craft store, and painted with acrylic paints. I don’t think it was really leaning, I think that is the result of my picture-taking skill (or lack thereof!) I also made the wreath for the front door – just a grapevine wreath spray painted black, with brightly colored pipe cleaners and pom poms glued on, topped off with a black and orange ribbon bow. It was a lot of fun to make – very cute and funky! The regular fall wreath of leaves and pip berries will go back on the door tomorrow!

We had lots of Halloween fun, but I was surely glad to get out of the witchy garb after the shop closed. So much so, that it didn’t even bother me (much!) to drive home with the serious “hat/wig hair” I had going on after the hat and wig came off. Thankfully, there were no roadblocks and I didn’t get into an accident so no one “really” saw me! I tried to give my long black wig to my 8 year-old granddaughter who planned to dress as a “skeleton bride” but she said it “itched too much.” I couldn’t argue with that!
