Quilt Market Recap

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

Since I shared with you some of the Quilt Market activities that feed my soul in yesterday’s post, today I thought I’d share with you some of the trends that captured my attention at market.

Flowers were everywhere! Quick and easy methods for making cute flowers…(hint: watch for Grubers and Kanzashi Flower Makers in the shop soon!) and they were being used on wearables, quilts, as decorative accents…you name it, flowers were definitely BIG!

Embroidery/stitchery patterns and designs were everywhere, too. I went a little crazy with the stitchery stuff…new patterns from Crabapple Hill, This and That, etc., and I even swooped up not one, but TWO block of the month programs that incorporate stitchery with piecing…watch for those to begin in a couple of months.

Wool was another strong contender in the trends area…it, too, was everywhere you looked. We recently added wool to the shop and there is more on the way! This is one of my favorite wool displays at the All Through the Night booth. Wool projects have become a real favorite with me because there is so little prep-work and most projects are small enough that they work up very quickly!

The use of solids in quilting projects is still going strong, and it is hard to beat Kona Cotton Solids…they offer over 200 colors! Watch for more Kona solids in the shop soon, too (and no, I didn’t order all 200 colors, but I was sure tempted!)

Just for fun…grommets! We’ve been using grommets in purses for a while now, but this fun display of other project options caught my attention and sparked my creative instincts. And the best part is how easy these are to use…just snap together!

This just scratches the surface of the product offerings, but all were significant enough to really catch my attention. Hope you enjoyed the little sneak peek of some of what’s to come! Next up, I’ll share photos of some of my favorite vendor booths…stay tuned!
