Bounty-of-Blues-Large

Bounty of Blues
Designed by Mellie Watts
Machine Quilted by Elaine Poore of Pooregirl’s Quilt Co.

We’re so excited! Our Mellie has a quilt published in McCall’s Quick Quilts in the April/May 2011 issue! Not only that, but it was also machine quilted by Elaine, who quilts 99% of our shop samples. The magazine hasn’t even hit the stands yet, but I’m sure if you stop by the shop when you get a copy Mellie would be happy to autograph it for you! (She’s here Tuesdays and Thursdays and some Saturdays.) The magazine also has an ‘I Spy’ version of the quilt, which is fun, too!

Romance is Still Alive and Well!

mellie-1This is Mellie, who recently began working part-time with us at Sweet Home, surrounded by the barbershop quartet her sweet husband arranged to serenade her on Valentine’s Day. Actually, they came to the shop on Friday afternoon and surprised her! I had plotted planned this surprise with her husband all week, and I was really afraid we wouldn’t be able to pull it off! I had assigned Mellie to “sample duty” so she’d be upstairs sewing when they showed up and we’d be able to get them in place before she saw them. Lin (her husband) had warned me that Mellie “didn’t like to be sung to in restaurants and stuff” so I was a little afraid of what her reaction might be. The tears flowed, though, and she said “I think this is the most romantic thing I’ve ever heard of!” Good job, Lin! You’re definately in the running for “Husband of the Year!” based on this effort!

Hope your Valentine’s Day was filled with lots of sweet, special moments!
